QAFC will be holding a pre season fun day at the events centre. The proposed date for this is 7th March. Hunger ball inflatable, sausage sizzle and so on. Register for the season by 7th March to go into the draw to win your subs back! Watch this space.
Open Day/Team Gathering
We will be holding one open days prior to the season so that we can collate teams and get kit bags organised for coaches. This will be on Sun 28th March and will be for U10, U11 and U12 players only. NB – please register prior to coming along so that we have an idea of numbers. Any player not registered prior to the season starting cannot be allocated to a team in the Comet system. This is a requirement of COFA.
Training for all age groups will be on Wednesdays commencing on 7 April at the Events Centre from 4.00pm to 5.00pm (timings for U6s and U7s will be confirmed closer to the time but may be reduced to 45 mins). Games for all age groups will be on Sundays apart from the U16s who will play on Saturdays. Games are played in Alexandra, Cromwell, Wanaka and Queenstown on a rotation basis. There will also be training on 14th April. 21st and 28th April will be at the coach’s discretion.
Sun 2nd May – first games (Sat 1st May for U16s) – COFA are finalising locations and, once we have these, these will be shared with you and will also upload the timetable for the season on to our website. Alternatively you can go directly to the COFA website for this information at any time at COFA Website. Games always take place on a Sunday (with the exception of U16s who will play on Saturdays) and the venues rotate around Cromwell, Alexandra, Wanaka and Queenstown.
COFA will send us through the draw each week, typically by Tuesday, and then we send this out via email and put it on our website. Again, you can go directly to the COFA website above to see the draws as well at any time.
Our U6s play games every Sunday as well. It is normally two games and the shirts are handed out and collected back again at these games. If your child is in this age group we would love to hear from you. We will need approximately 3 people to help organise the players, deal with the shirts and also let the other clubs know when you have arrived at each game as well as help with training on a Wednesday. NB if there are not enough parent volunteers for this group, it will not go ahead.
If you would like to coach/manage a team please fill in this form. Training will be on Wednesdays from 4-5pm and games are on Sundays (Saturdays for U16s). You will be provided with a kit bag and list of team players. Jamie Whitmarsh is coordinating the coaches throughout the season and will be on hand for any guidance or advice you may need. As with any sports club we cannot function without enough parents volunteering their time to coach the kids and players. You don’t need to be a football expert or an experienced coach. You just need to be prepared to commit some time on a Wednesday and a Sunday to provide the kids a fun, learning environment. QAFC will provide coaches sessions and teams can share coaches on Wednesday if this provides more flexibility around work commitments. The more coaches we get, the more playing opportunities we can provide the kids as we do not need to name large squads with too many substitutes due to a limited number of coaches. As with anything that takes you out of your comfort zone, coaching kids will be challenging but incredibly rewarding.
All our shorts and socks are now held by Stirling Sports. Go in to see them for all your 2021 supplies! They are at Shop T20, Five Mile Shopping Centre, 26 Grant Road, Frankton. Black Adidas shorts and black socks are part of the kit and must be worn.
The club relies heavily on our fantastic volunteers. We will have at least 3 home games in Queenstown and I will email out closer to the time of each one to ask for help with the baking stall, BBQ, set up and clear up. We highly appreciate all the time our volunteers give to the club.
