M E N S Prems
📢Otago Uni AFC v Queenstown AFC
Match Report by Danniel Luiz Becheri Bocatios
MOTM Cato Williams 👏

We're away to Dunedin to play against Otago University. We go into this game knowing how challenging it will be with so many players either unavailable or injured.

The weather is not in our favour, with consistent rain and a very fast paced surface to play on. We come out fighting and play some good challenges, our possession is not quite where it needs to be but we end the first half with a respectable 0-0.

Second half we come back with some minor adjustments and we are looking more in control of the game. An injury for Cohen Nash takes its toll on our defensive structure which ultimately leads to a late goal scored by Otago University. The boys are fighting hard, with Cato having an outstanding game for his first match back with QAFC.

Unfortunately the timing of the goal leaves us little chance to recover and it's over with a score of 1-0. A frustrating defeat when they deserved to come home with a win, but I am proud of the game they played and we'll be back next weekend fighting even harder to secure the win in Timaru.

⚽Final Score 1.0

📢 W O M E N S Prems
Otago Uni AFC v Queenstown AFC
Match report: Jamie Dunn (Women's Assistant Coach)
Saturday 20 May 2023

The Rovers Ladies headed to Dunedin for the 3rd consecutive week, this time with a full squad and wet weather conditions, playing the top University team on the Turf.

The game started off pretty even. We had some early chances but couldn't put them away. They got their goal about half an hour in and from a really nice pass and clinical finish. They had a really high press and kept us pinned back.

The game got away from us in the second half. But we showed glimpses of what we can do, with the girls battling hard.

Our back line had a strong game and Striker Keely Osborne got player of the day leading the line well, being a nuisance, doing her best against some physical play on her.

Uni pressed on and got two more late goals.

Rovers ladies hosting top of the table Royals next week at the Oval.

⚽Final Score 3.0

📢 LIFC (Wanaka) vs QAFC Youth
Saturday 20 May 2023
Report | Steve Henderson

A game where we were in control of from start to finish, scoring early and eventually 3.1 up at the half.

LIFC score early in the second half, but lack of discipline starts to mount up, constantly giving us more control on the game. We score twice more to complete a good afternoon out, 5.2

Excellent return with just the 12 today. 12 players committed to the game plan and executing pretty well.

⚽Final Score 5.2

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to write a short note to say thank you to everyone who came along to the Oval on Saturday to support the club, FSDL u15 team and Men's Premier team in the Chatham Cup vs Wanaka.

Obviously it wasn't the result we were hoping for, however I felt we more than matched Wanaka for the first half an hour and that our two injuries didn't help early on. In particular I really enjoyed the noise we made when we went 1-0 up and would like to see more of these days to create an atmosphere we can all enjoy for our various teams on big game days.

My big reflection is that I will take an overall win for our club and community for the way we all came together and enjoyed the day and in particular I would like to thank the men's team for how welcoming and supportive they were of our mascots, ball boys / girls and flag bearers. I heard some lovely feedback from parents about how happy their kids were playing these roles and I look forward to seeing the photos on social media and in the Mountain Scene later this week.

I also wanted to shout out to Nicky & Andrew Wall, Adam Feeley and Tamsin and Jude Latele for organsing and managing all of the catering, food and drinks, and Carly Blackbourn for organsing all of the kids activities prior to the game with our secretary Gareth Edwards. Queenstown Health for providing us physios and chiros for over ten years. I'm sure there are many others who supported the day, so if I have missed anyone please accept my apologies and know that I am really grateful for all of your help and support.

Final shout out to our club sponsors Colliers Otago for coming along for the day as well as all our other sponsors whom we will give separate shout outs to over the next few weeks; The Crown Pub & Beer Garden Southern Civil Consulting, BDO, JD Painting and Decorating, Kent Wilkins Electrical, Classic Builders, Fowler Homes, Pak n Save and Alpine Heat Pumps Services.

I would be interested in hearing from you with any feedback you have about us running future similar game / club days and in the longer term if you would be interested in QAFC utilising the QEC function room space as a more dedicated club house facility.

Thank you once again!

Might be worth mentioning the Physios and Chiro prsctors who have looked after the men’s team for over a decade and help sponsor the woman’s team years ago but is also looking after the woman’s team currently …. so they say self praise is no praise but THANKS Queenstown Health!

It was a great day, well done to the teams for two great games, & to the Club for the social opportunity!
